Meanwhile, the current electric vehicle (EV) policy of the Delhi government has been prolonged for a period of three months, so as to maintain uninterrupted workability till the brand-new EV Policy 2.0 gets implemented.
This indicates that auto, two-wheelers, and other modes of transport will not be in violation of any immediate operational restrictions. The policy comes as a respite for commuters and businesses.

Launched in August 2020, the EV Policy for Delhi was introduced to mitigate pollution and promote clean forms of mobility. Since the new EV Policy 2.0 is still in the making, the government opted for the extension of the current policy, so as to not disturb the transport ecosystem functioning of the city.
No Ban on Vehicle Transport Minister’s Assurance
Transport Minister of Delhi, Pankaj Singh, has maintained that some kind of prohibition is not on the cards for auto-rickshaws or any other category of vehicles. He also mentioned that the government will strengthen the transport infrastructure in Delhi further, ensuring a smooth and clean transition under the forthcoming policy.
What Are the Expectations from EV Policy 2.0?
The EV Policy 2.0 will herald the following features:
- Enhancement of subsidy on electric two-wheelers—to ₹30,000 (to ₹36,000 for female riders).
- Phased-out replacement of CNG vehicles, such as buses and cargo ones, with fully electric public transport.
- Incentives for scrapping old petrol/diesel vehicles in favor of EVs.
Charging infrastructure that makes mandatory EV charging points for new buildings and lay down fast charging corridors on principal routes, namely, Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.
