8th Pay Commission Update: DA to Reach 60%, Salary May Increase by ₹19,000

Central government employees are anticipated to get a substantial pay rise with the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, which is expected to increase Dearness Allowance (DA) to 60%. This turn of events has given hope to Madhya Pradesh state government employees awaiting similar benefits. But how much salary hike will there be? Let’s analyze.

Will the 8th Pay Scale Affect DA and Salary?

If the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission are accepted, the month-to-month salary of central employees might be increased by as much as ₹19,000. Madhya Pradesh employees may take longer to see it. Usually, the state government adopts the central pay structure with some delays and alterations depending on its financial viability.

When Will the Benefits of the 8th Pay Commission Come into Effect?

The 8th Pay Commission is likely to be constituted in April by the Central Government, with recommendations taking about one to one-and-a-half years for finalization. Hence, employees may expect the revised pay structure only by the year 2026.

The wait period may even get longer for the Madhya Pradesh employees. The state government generally revises pay after the Centre, so MP employees may not see any alteration before 2027.

What Salary Increase Can Employees Expect?

The 7th Pay Commission considerably raised the basic salary with a fitment factor of 2.57x. Now, if the 8th Pay Commission raises the fitment factor to 2.60x, we may see a resulting variation in salaries that goes as follows:

  • The current basic pay is ₹15,000
  • 2.60x-revised basic pay ₹39,000

But, because of the budgetary issues, Madhya Pradesh may not give the full effect of the central pay scales. While the other central employees could expect an increase of ₹19,000 per month, their counterparts in MP could wait for an increase of around ₹11,000.

What is the Role of the Pay Commission?

Every 10 years, the Pay Commission comes to review and adjusts salaries based on inflation, performance, and economic conditions. It will be the eighth Pay Commission that will set new benchmarks, which may be adopted in parts by states like Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh Allowances: Still Acknowledged For Delay In Meeting Centre

The Mohan Yadav government recently raised another 13 allowances, including DA and HRA, after a dozen years. Still, unions representing employees aren’t satisfied.

Umashankar Tiwari, State General Secretary of the Third Class Employees Union, said:
“This increment in allowances is merely an eyewash. Had it been at par with central rates, it would have brought real respite to the employees.”

Is DA in MP Likely to touch 60%?

Currently, Madhya Pradesh employees are getting 50% Dearness Allowance (DA). With the acceptance of the 8th Pay Commission recommendations, there is a possibility of an increase of DA to 60%, together with 3% performance increment. This combination could likely provide an overall salary increase of 15%.

Why Is DA Not Merged with Basic Pay?

The government of Madhya Pradesh has been opposing the demand for merging DA with basic pay due to financial budget constraints. The 6th Pay Commission had advised against such merger till date, and therefore employees will have to wait for some more time for this to materialize.
